Blagojevich Stalls Safe Walks To School

Two years - for TWO YEARS - Governor King Rod Blagojevich has sat on a strings-free federal grant, while he awaited word on which of his cronies would best benefit from the handout of choice sidewalk and road improvement contracts meant to make it safe for kids to get to and from school. And almost three months after finally making the decision on which Chicagoland cities would get the money (did any downstate schools benefit? Doubtful) - the money STILL isn't disbursed.

I'm amazed the Federal Highway Administration hasn't asked for the money back.

King Rod - this is NOT the state's money, it is NOT your personal piggybank - this is MY TAX MONEY sent to WASHINGTON (well, Kansas City, actually, but...) and it NEEDS TO BE GIVEN OUT to the folks who NEED it! Is it too hard for your people to do their JOB?

State withholds road money (Chicago Tribune) - After an almost two-year delay in implementing a grant program to provide safer routes for children to walk and bicycle to school, the Blagojevich administration still has not released millions of dollars in federal funding. [King Rod - Yahoo]
